Music visualizer styles → Ambient music visualizer
Ambient has no beat to hit, so most visualizers have nothing to do with it and twitch at noise instead. These scenes read the slow envelope of the sound rather than transients: a thread that swells with the swell, smoke thickening with the low end, a photograph breathing in depth, a comet tail, snow. Motion you notice after a few seconds, not immediately.

The engine separates the low end, the transient hits and the overall spectrum. On ambient there are almost no transients, and a visualizer driven by them would either sit dead or jitter on artefacts. The scenes chosen here are driven by the slow bands — the bass swell and the spectral centre — so they move with the phrase rather than with individual events. Turn the reaction down further for drone; turn it up slightly for ambient with a pulse.
DEPTH takes a single photograph, separates the subject from the background in your browser and moves the two at different speeds; on a slow track it is a two-minute camera move from one still frame. SMOKE and DOUBLE EXPOSURE add volume and light without anything that could be called an effect. VORTEX gathers and releases particles on the slow rise and fall.
PURE is on this page on purpose: sometimes the right visual for ambient is your photograph, unchanged, with only the export doing any work. THREAD and TRACE are the next step up — a single line or a single point of light, and otherwise silence.
